We’re beyond excited to announce that Sustainable Compute Network (SCN) has been selected as a finalist in the first-ever Green Growth Awards, hosted by Small Business Britain in partnership with BT. This national competition shines a spotlight on small businesses that are leading the charge in sustainability while driving innovation and growth—and we’re proud to be among them!
What Are the Green Growth Awards?
Launched this year, the Green Growth Awards celebrate small businesses across the UK that are proving sustainability isn’t just good for the planet—it’s good for business too. With two £5,000 grants up for grabs, the awards aim to fuel even more eco-friendly projects that make a difference. The winners will be revealed at a special event at BT’s Headquarters in London on March 11, 2025, and we’re thrilled to be in the running.
Our Journey: Turning E-Waste into Opportunity
Here at SCN, we started with a bold idea back in 2024: what if we could take electronic waste—old laptops, servers, and hardware destined for landfills—and transform it into something powerful? Founder Macauley Lynch envisioned a world where high-performance computing could be both sustainable and accessible. That vision became SCN: a dual-entity model that repurposes e-waste into renewable-energy-powered infrastructure, delivering affordable compute power to underfunded research institutions and communities.
It’s a win-win—reducing carbon emissions and electronic waste while democratizing access to the tools that drive innovation. And now, being named a Green Growth Awards finalist feels like a powerful validation of that mission.
What This Means to Us
“This recognition validates our innovative approach to merging sustainability with advanced computing,” says Macauley Lynch, SCN’s founder. “It inspires us to keep pushing the boundaries of what green technology can achieve while making high-performance computing accessible to all.”
We couldn’t agree more. This milestone isn’t just about us—it’s about the growing movement of small businesses proving that greener practices can lead to real success: cost savings, waste reduction, and stronger connections with the communities we serve.
Why It Matters
The UK’s 5.5 million small businesses account for roughly half of the nation’s business emissions. Initiatives like the Green Growth Awards, backed by Small Business Britain and BT, are crucial for empowering us to rethink our environmental impact. As Michelle Ovens CBE, founder of Small Business Britain, puts it: “These businesses prove that greener practices benefit the planet while creating real business success.”
Chris Sims, Chief Commercial Officer at BT, adds: “It’s inspiring to see how these businesses leverage sustainable practices to achieve real business success and create positive change in their communities.” We’re honored to be part of that story.
Looking Ahead
As we gear up for the awards ceremony in March, we’re more motivated than ever to keep innovating. Whether it’s expanding our reach, refining our processes, or collaborating with more partners, this finalist nod is fuel for the journey ahead.
A huge thank you to our team, our supporters, and everyone who believes in a future where technology and sustainability go hand in hand. Stay tuned for updates—and if you’d like to learn more about what we do, explore our site or get in touch!
Here’s to building a greener, more connected world—together.
